Will you get a Flu Shot this Year?
You have probably started to see reminders to ‘get your flu shot’ at drug stores, groceries and medical offices.
Part of my job is to teach and share with you information that helps you make the best informed choices for your health.
Many of you have asked if I receive the annual flu shot. I do not. When I have questions about using or not using any medical intervention, I ask, “is it safe and is it effective?”
I believe the evidence shows it is not effective and not without health risks. Check out this article by Dr. Jockers as well as this info from Dr, Mercola. A recent study published in The Lancet shows that flu shots are not as effective as people are lead to believe.
“It is estimated that, annually, only about 2.7% of adults get type A or type B influenza in the first place. The study showed that the use of flu vaccines appear to drop this down to about 1.2%. This is a roughly 60% drop but that ignores the fact that the vaccine has no protective health benefits for 97.5% of adults.”
Tony Robbins Podcast: Is Your Phone A Problem?
In this episode of the Tony Robbins podcast, author and social sociologist Adam Alter discusses the ways people are addicted to their smart phones. Did you know that 75% of adults spend the majority of their day in reach of their phone?
Alter says our technology addiction limits our empathy and connections with others. In the podcast he also discusses how to become aware of your addictive behavior and the benefits of a technology detox and changing your usage of technology to better serve you.
Link Between Arthritis and Lack of Movement
A new study looked at 200 skeletons from 3 different time periods and found osteoarthritis in the knee has doubled in recent times. This is not, however, because humans have a longer life expectancy. Researcher Dr. Ian Wallace believes rates of osteoarthritis of the knee have increased because humans are moving less.
We know that traumatic injuries, sports injuries, and overuse are all causes of arthritis. However, this study suggests a significant portion of our population that suffers from knee osteoarthritis may be from moving too little rather than too much.

Recipe of the Month: Slow Cooker Apple and Onion Pulled Pork
Now that school has started, many people find it hard to make a healthy dinner on a limited time-frame. Dinnertime loses out to sports practices, meetings and homework. This Apple Onion Pulled Pork Recipe from Thank You Honey has minimal preparation and is cooked in a slower cooker. The recipe is Paleo and it takes advantage of the delicious fall apples that will soon be in season.
