Video: Welcome Massage Therapist Nicole Hershey

Please join us in welcoming massage therapist Nicole Hershey on the second floor of our office. Check out her website here to learn more about her practice and schedule online!

Here is some more about Nicole:

I’m a graduate of SHI Integrative Medical Massage School, and I also hold a BA in dance and psychology from the University of Iowa.

I stumbled upon massage when working through a mild ballet injury, and I love helping other people with similar issues – tweaks and twinges that come with active lifestyles or repetitive movements and annoyingly keep you from feeling your best. Playing Sherlock Holmes to what’s causing your pain is my favorite kind of work. Having my fair share of upper back, shoulder, and neck issues, I love to help de-tangle the muscles of this area for more freedom of movement and less pain.

My sessions combine this targeted, specific work with slow, broad, calming work to help alleviate the stress of everyday life. In a world that dings, pings, beeps, and buzzes constantly, taking a break from the fast pace is important. Come lay on my table. I’ll get the hot towels and eye mask ready and help you reset.

I came to Cincinnati in 2013 to work as a professional dancer, actor, and teaching artist, and this background serves me well as a massage therapist. I have a small obsession with learning how the body works, especially muscles and joints – I took my first anatomy class at a summer dance workshop as a 15 year old.

I currently teach with Cincinnati Ballet’s adaptive dance program, CB Moves, leading accessible dance classes for people with Parkinson’s Disease and teens with varying disabilities. I also serve on the board of Know Theatre of Cincinnati (home of the Cincinnati Fringe Festival), where I first found a home in this unfamiliar city over 10 years ago.

RIP Dr. Arno Burnier: Thank You to a Chiropractic Mentor

I met Arno Burnier early on in my chiropractic school career when he came to speak at my college. I don’t think I had ever met someone like Arno! He had an intense presence and spirit about him. He shared his philosophy of health and life and this greatly shaped and influenced my perspective and my path in this profession. I have much gratitude for Arno!

I’ll share one story that Arno liked to tell to give you a small sense of him.

Arno was introduced to chiropractic as a young man by an influential healer. Arno describes his first meeting with this chiropractor where he spoke at length about all the pains and issues and concerns he was having with his body. His chiropractor was silent for a few moments and then said:

There is nothing I can do about what is wrong with you.
What I can do, however, is address what is right in you.
You cannot fight disease, you must turn on health.
You cannot fight darkness, you must turn on light.

This attention to the innate healing capacity of the body and trust in the process of life was critical in shaping my philosophy early in my education. I went on to attend trainings with Arno in chiropractic technique and overall development. RIP Arno!

On his most recent podcast, Dr. Huber and Chelsea tackle some excellent questions!

Additionally, here is a link to an article from Dr. Jockers discussing healthy fats and the pitfalls of seed and vegetable oils. This is a topic in the podcast worth learning more about.
